Retired NFL running back Sony Michel took to social media on Sunday to clear up a false report claimig he had died in a motorcycle accident, a rumor started by an X user.

Michel, 28, announced his retirement from the league two weeks ago despite rejoining the Los Angeles Rams one month prior. He reportedly did not feel capable of withstanding more atrophy from another season.

X user "@BeatintheBookie" was responsible for spreading the false rumor online and later apologized for his incorrect sources. He also made the account private.

"My sources were incorrect I guess. It was an error to post regardless. Glad to hear he is still with us. Last time I try to report any news. Sorry guys," the user tweeted.

Michel, meanwhile, confirmed he is alive and well via X with a simple post reading: "Fake news." He retired as a two-time Super Bowl champion.

Alex Collins involved in fatal accident

Former NFL running back Alex Collins died in a motorcycle crash Sunday night at the age of 28.

Perhaps the source cited by the X user simply gave him that information and he assumed it was Michel.

Collins collided with an SUV in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida and was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

He played five years in the league, including for the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens. RIP Alex Collins.
