DISCOVER: East London singer-songwriter Jesuton
Every singer has a story to tell, and Jesuton‘s is pretty unique to say the least.
The East London singer-songwriter’s love for Latin American music encouraged her to make the move to Brazil to kick start her career. What began as simply busking on the streets of Rio, led to appearances on some of Brazil’s biggest TV shows which were watched by 20 million people.
Although Jesuton is now a household name in Brazil, she is keen to make her mark on her home country following the release of her debut album, Home. Co-produced by Mario Caldato Jr (Beastie Boys, Jack Johnson, Seu Jorge), Home is a twelve-track offering full of honesty and reflection, which truly represents Jesuton as an artist.
Of the album, she said: “The album speaks about who we are and our journey to find where we belong within our internal and external universes. Self identity, how we love and hide from love, how we try to move past pain and our attempts to stay open and honest in the face of life’s many challenges. Where we run to and what we’re running from. These songs are my confessions, soundtracks to my soliloquies on duality, doubt, parallel universes and the raw realities of waking up each day, just trying to be you.”
A few days ago, Jesuton released the music video for ‘Man Of My Life’, one of the songs from the album. Speaking about the song and its video, she said: “Sometimes we don’t know what to do, what the right choice to make would be. The track and music video ‘Man of My Life’ is situated at fork in the road, on a dark night. Left or right. Keep trying or quit and break free? This persistent duality is the central aspect of the album: that there are multiple, coexisting truths. And are we really choosing? Or are we somehow locked in endless cosmic cycles? The music video, filmed in Italy by Alberto Marchiori, explores these ideas.”
Jesuton will be returning to London soon as she prepares to spend the summer in the studio. Whilst we wait for even more new music from her, Home is available to stream now.
