Dax Shepard Initially Chose Kristin Bell Over Parenthood Role What Changed His Mind?

Dax Shepard loves Kristin Bell so much that he initially turned down the role of Crosby Braverman on Parenthood for her.

When the actor was first offered the role, which he ended up playing for six seasons, Shepard passed on it for one very good reason. Parenthood was scheduled to shoot in Philadelphia, and the father of two was not willing to jeopardize his new relationship with Bell for the part. He knew he could not do the show and be in the relationship, so he chose the blonde beauty.

“I got offered Parenthood. I hadn’t acted in a long time, no one was offering me anything, and they said, ‘This show shoots in Philadelphia’ and I said, ‘There’s no way I can be in this relationship and move to Philadelphia,'” Shepard explained on his podcast Armchair Expert when he was speaking about his career with guest Chris D’Elia.

There were very few people who knew that Shepard initially turned down the role of Crosby on Parenthood. Bell was one of very few who were privy to the information. The two were newly dating at the time, and neither one could believe he had turned down a paid acting gig for the relationship.

Despite wanting to be on the show desperately, and the idea of life in Philly being extremely appealing to him. Shepard knew it had to be the show or Bell. A long-distance relationship was not an option for him at that point in his life.

“I turned that show down which, by the way, is certainly the first time in my life that I had ever done that I couldn’t believe I was doing it,” The Ranch star continued.

In the end, everything worked out well for Dax Shepard. Even though he turned out the role of Crosby on Parenthood, when production was ultimately moved to Los Angeles, he jumped at the chance to be part of the project.
